Bailable arrest warrants against the Chief Executive, Salman Iqbal, and one of the hosts of ARY TV, Mubashir Lucman, have been issued out by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Tuesday, while giving hearing to the petition ,filed against the channel’s broadcasting of scandalous material against the Judiciary.
Justice Shaukat Aiziz Siddiqui has declared these orders after reluctance of the accused Mubashir Lucman and Salman Iqbal , to present before the court, in the ordained time.
Earlier this month, Lucman was barred from appearing in any television programmes, as he used to slander the people including senior Judiciary, during his show.
During the court proceedings, Pervez Rathor, Acting Chairman Pakistan Electronic And Media Regulatory Authority(Pemra), presented a compilation of defamatory material used against the Judiciary, during ARY broadcasting.
Counsel for the district bar, Syed Nayab Gardezi asked the bench to take strict action against the media channels involved in the contempt of court , and considers nonappearance of the accused ones as an act of belittling court’s worth.
Justice Siddiqui has scheduled 1st August to be the next hearing date, after issuing bailable arrest warrants against the defendants.
