LEAs tired to disperse protesting PIA workers in Karachi, few critically injured


Karachi: In attempt to disperse protesting Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) workers at Jinnah Terminal (Karachi) on Tuesday LEAs used rubber bullets, baton charging, tear gas and water cannons, as result a protester died and few are critically injured.


According to SAMAA Tv, two PIA workers are dead and eight severely injured.


Ealier, Federal Government on Monday approved Essential Services Maintenance Act 1952 for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for the time of six months.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif signed the to approve the act.


Talking to media, after the provocation of act, Information minister Pervaiz Rashid said “Any employee taking part in the strike will lose his job as we have arranged alternate staff and pilots to run the airline.”


Prime Minister Nawaz held a high-level meeting to review the impact of PIA employees’ strike.

It was decided during meeting the government will engage employees. Due to protest already billions of rupees have been bear by national exchequer. It was retreated in the meeting that government will not be blackmailed by PIA union.

It was the fourth consecutive day of PIA employees were protesting against the  announced privatization of national airline.
