President of Pakistan approved the appointment of Justice Nasirul Mulk as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The appointment of Justice Nasirul Mulk has been approved by Mamnoon Hussain, the President of Pakistan. An official notification of the appointment will be issued soon. The current CJP Justice Rassaduq Hussain Jillani will retire on July 5 while Justice Mulk will take oath as the chief of apex court on July 6 for a period of about 13 month.
Justice Mulk was born on August 17 1950 in Swat, a Pakistani city of the province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He had been the senior judge of the Peshawar High Court, graduated in Bar-at-Law at Inner Temple London and was called to the Bar in 1977. Currently serving as a Justice in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mulk had been a member of judges’ panel which gave ruling over the contempt of court charges against former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Justice Mulk was sworn in as the new acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan in November last year, when retiring CJP Jillani took oath as the country’s top judge.
