LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has confirmed that Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Chief Maulna Masood Azhar has been taken into under custody.
Responding to a question during Dawn TV talk show ‘News Eye’, Punjab’s Law minister on Thursday confirmed that Masood Azhar was taken into custody by the counter-terrorism department (CTD).
Anchor of the show Mehar Bokhari when asked if his custody can be called an ‘arresrt’, Sanaullah replied, if evidence substantiated Azhar’s involvement in Pahtankot air base attack then we will arrest and take legal action against him.
Earlier, Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar was identified by India as mastermind of Pathankot air base attack, his brother and several other associative have also been taken into custody according to media, however no official person from both sides confirmed the news.
Police officials in Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalnagar and Multan, where the arrest were reportedly have taken place, refuted such reports, and regard the matter a federal subject.
Pathankot air base of India was stormed by the six attackers on 2 Janurary, after the attack India claimed that the handlers of attackers were in Pakistan. After the attack PM Nawaz Sharif phoned his Indian counterpart and confirmed assistance to catch the culprits.
