The Big-G has made an announcement to support the biggest online shopping gala in Pakistan, give the name as ‘Tech Mela’, the online shopping festival will be the first of its type in the country’s growing e-commerce market.
Tech Mela is scheduled to last for a period of 10 days, kicking off on September 11 and will conclude on September 20.
“Pakistan’s mobile industry is really taking off with more and more people coming online and using their smartphones as their primary Internet device,” the Country Manager South Asia Frontier at Google, Tania Aidrus said.
“It is absolutely the right time to hold this virtual shopping festival just before the traditional holiday and festive period of Eid ul Adha and what better way than to hold it completely online where the next wave to buyers will be congregating,” added Tania.
As Internet penetration is increasing speedily and the wish for buying online growing, it is expected that this step will bring more understanding and taking up of e-commerce in Pakistan, expressed Google’s country manager.
As stated by TNS research, Pakistan contains 30 million online users, half of whom are utilizing their cells for this objective. The Big-G is grouping with e-commerce partner Daraz.pk and development associates Active8 to hold the online shopping event.
