Crane accident in Makkah: 47 Pakistanis injured


47 Pakistani pilgrims sustained injuries in the last night’s crane-falling incident in Makkah’s Grand Mosque, which overall claimed 107 lives.


Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Qazi Khalilullah stated on Saturday that 22 Pakistanis out of the total were admitted in three hospitals in the adjacent of the mosque but only 16 remained in the medical facilities as six were discharged after giving first aide.

About 25 were given first aide on the spot as they had sustained minor injuries.

According to the spokesperson, there was no information on if any Pakistan died in the accident, while none of the injured was in serious condition either.

Earlier, the arrangements were ongoing ahead of the start of annually biggest pilgrimage starting in less than 15 days, when the accident took place. The sandstorm along with thunderstorm caused a prodigious crane to fall into the ground of the Grand Mosque where people were offering routine Tawaf of the Kabbah.

On the whole, at least 107 died, while 238 injured, as stated Saudi authorities.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Manzoor-ul-Haq says, best medical facilities are being provided to the injured Pakistani pilgrims in Makkah.

In a statement from Saudi Arabia, he said, Pakistan Consulate in Jeddah can be reached at 00966126692371 with dialing of extension zero.

An emergency call centre has also been set-up at Ministry of Religious Affairs to provide information about Pakistani pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
