Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has officially nominated Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the National Assembly speaker’s post, a day after his taking oath as a Member of NA.
PM Nawaz announced so while discussing political matters with the former speaker. Earlier, re-elected during re-polling from Lahore’s NA-122, Ayaz Sadiq took oath as a member of the NA on Friday.
Soon after his taking oath, the acting speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi announced that secret balloting for new speaker would hold on November 9. Following the announcement, PM commended Saqid’s role in maintaining democratic stance in the parliament.
“I am confident taht Ayaz Sadiq will maintain the same standards in the upcoming years,” PM Nawaz expressed before the meeting between the two was concluded.
Moreover, the incumbent party chose the former speaker as their candidate for the post of speaker, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Shafqat Mehmood to contest Monday’s election; however, the MNAs from FATA have shown their trust on GG Jamal as their candidate for the prestigious post.
Earlier, the NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq, who was elected after general elections in 2013, was unseated after his election from NA-122 was nullified by an election tribunal on August 22, in the wake of PTI chief Imran Khan’s challenging his election triumph.
