Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has summoned an immediate meeting of the corps commanders on Sunday evening, a day after the protest turned into bloodshed in red zone of Islamabad between protesters and law enforcement agencies.
The meeting was scheduled to be held on Monday morning but called on Sunday evening followed by the consultation of Army Chief with the senior military commanders.
A spokesman of ISPR had earlier said that the meeting, which will be preside by General Raheel, will discuss the internal security situation of the country.
According to highly placed sources told a media group that the conference would also evolve its strategy to end the prevailing political turmoil.
The meeting of the army commanders can have a significant outcome on the current situation in Islamabad, especially with the fact that the military had been engaged in as ‘mediating’ the crisis by the government to defuse the crisis among the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek i Insaf (PTI).
