ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided a high-level meeting at Prime Minister House on Wednesday to review operation Zarb-e-Azb.
Notably, the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar is also among the attendants of the meeting. The top security czar had been eminently missing from the scenes of such meetings for about 3 months.
Besides Nisar, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, DG Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif and other senior civil and military officials were among those attending the meeting.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif talks about development in the ongoing military offensive known as Zarb-e-Azb and the return of the temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) owing to it
Military operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched by the Pakistan Army on June 15 last year to root out the terrorism from the country. It was a must to launch this operation as the peace talks between the government and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiators had been failed.
After the launch of this operation, almost a million of inhabitants of North Waziristan, where the operation was targeted, fled the area that borders Afghanistan.
