Ace Urdu writer Intizar Hussain dies at 92, twitter pays tribute


LAHORE: Ace intellectual, short story writer, novelist, poet and columnist Intazar Hussain died at the age of 92 on Tuesday in  in Lahore. He was undergoing a treatment at a private hospital.


Inztizar Husain was born on December 7, 1923 in Dibai, Bulandshahr, (British-India), after the partition he moved to Pakistan. He hold degree of Master’s in Urdu. He has short stories, translation of stories in Urdu , novels and English columns to his credit.

Intizar Hussain books include ‘Basti’, ‘Agay Samndar hay’, ‘Kankari’, ‘Gali Koochay’, ‘Sheharzad Kay Naam’, ‘Shahr-e-Afsos’, ‘Khali Pinjra’, ‘Wo Jo Kho Gaey’ and ‘Janam Kahaniyan’.

His work was acknowledged Internationally as well, he was the first Urdu writer to be nominated for the ‘Man Booker International prize for fiction back in 2013. ‘Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters’ by the French Ambassador to Pakistan Philippe Thiebaud in 2014 were other international recognition of his work.
