Nintendo Switch Sports reached number one

The Nintendo Switch Sports comfortably took the top spot on the UK boxed charts this week, according to the latest GfK data.

It is the third largest franchise launch in the UK, after Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. These two games were practically sold out at launch, identical to each other (Wii Sports were only available with the Wii console). In comparison, Nintendo Switch Sports sold less than half of what those games managed to sell during launch week.

However, this last game was much better than the previous title: Wii Sports Club on the Wii U, which failed to make it into the top 40 when it was launched in a box in 2014 (it also only reached number 13 on the Wii. U charts.) .

All historical data provided by GfK.

To compare the game to other modern party games, Nintendo Switch Sports has sold more than twice Mario Party Superstars and nearly eight times Just Dance 2022 (both released in November 2021). It also sold six times more than Ring Fit Adventure during its launch week in October 2019.

First week sales aren’t a great indicator for these types of games. All of the above stocks had a quiet opening week but continued to sell big units. The audience they are targeting is more casual and less inclined to rush on the first day. Thus, the real success of Nintendo Switch Sports will depend on its performance over the next few months and even years.

As a result of Switch Sports’ inaugural success, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is expected to take second place, with sales down 25% weekly. He has won the Warner Bros title three times in a row.

The arrival of more PS5 games helped put Gran Turismo 7 in third place after increasing sales by 152%, while Horizon Forbidden West took fourth place after increasing by 52%.

Elsewhere, Kirby and the Forgotten Land returned to the top ten after increasing sales by 31%. And Cricket 22: Official Game of The Ashes is ranked 26th after the game was launched on the Nintendo Switch.

Here are the top ten British boxers at GFK for the week ending April 30:
