Monte Laura… 40 years of success!

40 years have passed since then, in 1983, the Santana Institutes in Lugano and the Santa Caterina Institutes in Locarno decided to launch the summer courses in Monte Laura. The initial idea was to provide the students of the two schools with the possibility to continue their education even during the summer periods, in a quieter and more comfortable environment, without worrying about notes and judgments. Almost immediately, the proposal was also expanded to all students from public and private schools throughout the Italian Ticino and Grisones. The success was immediate and overwhelming, and the courses sold out. The rest is the green of the Grisons, the fresh and healthy air of the magical alpine setting of Monte Laura, combined with the hospitality and entertaining skills of the teachers and staff of the structure. Over the years, the courses have been constantly adapted, staying true to the initial ideas and guidelines, according to the motto “School and nature in the fresh airTo date, more than 5,000 students and nearly 300 teachers have taken part in the courses, more than 6,000 hours of lessons have been given and 2,000 days have been spent in Monte Laura. Today, as yesterday, summer courses at Monte Laura continue to be a tremendous success, as witnessed above all by the students who return year after year. An important figure: approximately half of the students in each course are students who have already been to Monte Laura in previous years. But the success is also evidenced by the fact that now there are many shifts between generations, who, having developed a pleasant memory for 20 or 30 years, have enrolled their children in summer courses.

The current format of the courses continues to be successful: the quality of the teaching and the ability to provide students with a pleasant and interesting stay. In each of the three courses on offer there are 50 lessons in the subjects of mathematics, Italian, German, English and French, taught by qualified teachers according to the official programmes. Along with educational activities, various sports and leisure activities are offered (volleyball, table tennis, futsal, basketball, badminton, bowls, walks, outdoor games, themed evenings, pizza making, barbecue, etc.). All under the control of teachers and staff, 24/24h. The courses are for students from grade 3 to grade 4, broken down by age and class attended.
