Mike Woodson says he is “ecstatic” about the probability of finding a next prospect to be the Knicks’ mentor.
Woodson, who coached the Knicks for two-furthermore year from 2012-14, is one of the numerous candidates the group and new president Leon Rose have interviewed or will job interview for its present-day head coaching emptiness. He is 1 of 11 known candidates, a record that features former Timberwolves and Bulls mentor Tim Thibodeau and ex-Nets headman Kenny Atkinson.
The 62-12 months-aged Woodson, who also coached the Hawks, reported he is satisfied to be deemed for an additional test in New York.
“I was just hoping 1 working day to get a shot to appear back and I assume this is a great possibility now,” Woodson explained though a visitor Thursday on SiriusXM NBA Radio with hosts Eddie Johnson and Antonio Daniels. “I thank the Knicks for reaching out to me and putting me in situation. Which is all you can talk to for as a mentor when you go out and begin interviewing for these employment. So I’m psyched about it, I actually am.”
Though Woodson was the previous coach to lead the Knicks to playoffs — posting a 54-28 report and reaching the second spherical of the playoffs through the 2012-13 season — he stated he is even prouder of his remaining calendar year at the Back garden. The Knicks dealt with accidents early but rallied to finish 37-45, one game out of the playoffs. He took entire blame for the early struggles, but was delighted with the club’s resilience.
“Those men could have easily stop and say, ‘Hey let’s go residence for the summer time and get prepared for following season’, but they didn’t quit on me,” Woodson reported. “For me from a coach’s standpoint, hey that was a excellent coaching task by me and my staff members.”
Woodson said if he did return to the Knicks, the team’s offense would glance pretty very similar to what his previous squad ran since “I imagined our type of play matches how we’re taking part in today” dependent on the quantity of 3-ideas that are tried. But just one detail he would improve is delegating more to his staff.
“I fairly a great deal ran every little thing myself, attempted to anyway,” Woodson explained.
