As the new year approaching, the provincial government has inflicted a ban on expected aerial firing, fireworks and riding silencer-less motorcycles on the New Year’s night in Karachi. Government also directed the concerned authorities to close Sea View on the night.
Every New Year’s night witnesses shot up of hundreds of thousands of ammunition into the air by revellers to celebrate the starting of New Year. Such practices take lives of many innocent people every year. Several citizens have been sustained injuries caused by stray bullets in the outcome of heavy aerial firing in spite of hollow claims by law enforcement agencies.
Although the revellers celebrate New Year in every part of the city, Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad and Sea View are the two hotspots where thousands of young-blood gather to celebrate New Year in their own whims.
As said in the notification issued by the provincial home department on Tuesday, the government has inflicted Section 144 on aerial firing, fireworks and riding such bikes having no silencers on the eve of New Year. On this occasion, the Karachiites will also be restrained to visit Sea View.
In order to materialize the imposition of law, a heavy contingent of law enforcers will be deployed on the roads and the routes leading towards Sea View along with barriers would also be placed on such routes.
“Strict action will be taken against the violators as we have to stop each and every one – not only the youths but the families, too,” said Boat Basin DSP Dhulam Nabi Wago, adding: “Only the residents of the area will be allowed to go to their homes.” Further, the traffic police are also directed to provide alternative routes for the occasion.”
