ISLAMABAD: Sindh has demanded to give the authority to levy and collect sales tax on daily commodities of life to the provinces.
According to sources, an important meeting of second working group of National Financial Commission was called on this demand of Sindh. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Finance Committee of Senate and member National Financial Commission, Senator Saleem Mandviwala.
During the session Sindh demanded to hand over the authority to collect and levy tax on things to the concerned provinces. Senator Saleem told regarding the recommendations of the working group that collection of sales tax should be handed over to provinces and then the provinces can hand over the revenue to the federal government.
According to the recommendations of the working group, federal government can oblige the provinces with special facilities that would be able to collect maximum sales tax. KPK and Balochistan extended their support to the suggestion of Sindh.
Saleem Mandwiwala also said on this occasion that federal government is not serious on the conduct of NFC Award and due to federal government the meeting of working group has been postponed twice.
