Sindh Assembly passes resolution against division of province

KARACHI: A resolution was passed in the Sindh Assembly on Thursday against the division of the province.

The proposal was expounded by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Suhail Anwar.

This issue made headlines after Muttahida Qoumi Movement (MQM) leaders demanded to make more administrative units in the country. The opposition parties, nationalists, writers and activists in Sindh have joined hands to condemn the MQM’s demand, saying they will not support any unconstitutional demands that are a direct threat to the integrity of Pakistan.

MQM lawmakers were not present at the provincial assembly’s session today as the party decided to boycott it in protest against the arrest of MQM workers.

MPAs belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were also not present in the assembly at the time the resolution was passed.

Provincial members of PML-F and PML-N were not inside the assembly as they had walked out of the building, protesting against the issue of allocation of seats in the newly-built assembly.
