Re-election on Lower Dir’s pk-95 on July 12 due to women barred voting


ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the schedule for re-election in Lower Dir’s PK-95,the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly seat on Friday. Earlier, the by-election in the constituency was declared null and void after reports that women of constituency have been barred to vote by tribal jirga.


Nomination papers can be submitted on the 14 and 15 June, final list of the constesting candidates will be showed n June 26th, according to the ECP schedule.


Seat was vacated by Jamat-e-Islami (JI) chief Siraj-ul-Haq after he got elected Senator. On vacant seat, by-elections were held in the constituency on May 7, JI ticket holder Izaz-ul-Mulk claimed the seat in a close fight with Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Bahadur Khan.

The issue of women barred from voting in pk-95 was raised by human rights activists and civil society and submitted a petition to the Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) challenging the results of the by-elections on the grounds that women were not allowed to vote. ECP took notice and declared the by-polls null and void.
