Zain murder case: ATC exonerates Mustafa Kanju

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) exonerated five accused including Mustafa Kanju in the Zain murder case on Tuesday.

The court released Kanju, who is a son of former state minister Sadique Kanju, and his guards after eight prosecution witnesses, including Sohail Afzal, complained of the FIR, denied identifying the accused.

Because of the non-availability of considerable testimony, the court exonerated all accused.

Earlier, Mustafa had allegedly shot Zain and left a passerby injured after a fiery argument on April 1 when he opened fire on a vehicle near Lahore’s Cavalry Ground area.

It must be mentioned that previous proceedings complainant Afzal, uncle of the deceased Zain, made his appearance before the court and recorded his statement arguing he did not identify the accused with clarity as he reached at the spot after one-and-half hour of the murder.

The counsel of the accused had also pleaded the court in previous proceedings that a compromise was being occurred between both the parties.
