ATTOCK: By Polls in PP-16 were held on Tuesday as the seat was vacant after elected MPA from here Shuja Khanzada was killed in a suicidal terrorist attack on August 16.
The elections held were clearly an one-sided competition as Shuja Khanzada’s son, Jhangir Khanzada contested on the vacant seat from PML-N.
All the political parties decided not to put any competitor in the elections against son of slain Shuja Khanzada.
Dr Naeem Awan, who earlier participated in 2013 election as a PPP candidate, competed as an independent candidate this time.
According to the sources, Jhangir Khanzada won by securing 40,390 votes, on the other hand Independent candidate marked his second consecutive defeat got 4,123 votes.
The results were not surprising as it was clearly known that Jhangir would gain the seat without any serious hurdles.
Slain Shuja Khanzada was appointed as Punjab Interior Minister and was courageously implementing National Action Plan (NAP) to eradicate terrorism.
Shuja khanzada embraced martyrdom on 16th August, after getting severely injured in the suicidal attack at his party’s office in Attock.
1500 police men were deployed and Rangers and Army were also positioned inside the polling stations to avoid any untoward incident. According to the District Election Commissioner, 137 polling stations were established, which included 54 male, 47 female and 36 combine polling stations.
