GUJRANWALA: Rana Akhtar Ali of Pakistan Muslim League (N) beat the candidate of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) Ehsanullah Virk with a huge margin in the by-polls held here on Sunday in PP-100.
Rana Akhtar Ali got a lead of more than 21,000 votes over PTI candidate, Ehsanullah Virk.
In PP-100, the seat became vacant due to the murder of MPA Rana Shamshad Ali Khan of PML-N and the polling held today in Gujranwala that continued till evening.
Three candidates were the key competitors in this by-election which include N-League candidate Rana Akhtar Ali Khan who is the brother of deceased MPA Rana Shamshad Ali Khan, PTI candidate Ehsanullah Virk and PPP candidate Rana Shahbaz Ahmad Khan.
In the constituency of PP-100, about 113 polling stations were set-up for the polling and the number of total registered voters is 162,444.
Tight security arrangements were made on this occasion and the administration deployed 3000 policemen to conduct the polling.
