Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s newly elected Member of National Assembly (NA) Jahangir Khan Tareen took his formal oath on Friday.
The PTI stalwart had defeated Siddique Khan Baloch, hailed from Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), during the re-elections for the NA-154 constituency in Lodhran.
The seat, which Tareen has won, got emptied as Siddique Baloch was declared disqualified by an Election Tribunal on August 26 after a petition lodged by Tareen himself, accusing the former of having a bogus education certificate and committing much irregularities during the general elections of 2013.
Following the Tribunal’s move, Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered re-polling, permitting the accused to participate in the re-election process.
Rigging and irregularities have been a constant concerns highlighted mainly by PTI soon after the 2013 general elections. The Election Tribunal had declared massive irregularities found in the NA-122, the most-hyped constituency after the general elections, where Ayaz Sadiq was de-seated; however, he regained his lost position after winning in the by-polls against PTI.
NA-154 was the next big fish in the pond of constituencies of Pakistan which has come to an end with Tareen’s winning in the by-polls, defeating PML-N’s Siddique.
Earlier, PTI had rejected the elected House and had rendered resignations from the membership while staging a sit-in outside the Parliament House in the federal capital of Islamabad.
