Allama Iqbal’s son Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal passes away in Lahore


Javed Iqbal had served as a chief justice of Lahore High Court and a Supreme Court judge. He had been suffering from illness before passing away at the age of 91.


He had been under treatment at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore. The funeral prayers of late retd justice are scheduled to be offered at 4pm today in Gulberg Lahore.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain expressed deep grief over the death of great Allama Iqbal’s son.

“The death of Javed Iqbal, who rendered great legal and literary services for the country, is a huge loss to the state of Pakistan,” PM said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the loss through Twitter.

Javed Iqbal had served to address the missing persons’ case during his service and he had succeeded in getting intelligence agencies to report regarding people in their custody. He was retired from Supreme Court in July 2011. The dedication of his work and the pain he used to feel for the effected people can be comprehended from the fact that aggrieved families of missing persons were apprehensive after his retirement.
