PTI-led KPK govt inaugurates micro hydro project in Kalam


SWAT: Sarhad Rural Support Programme will rehabilitate two closed and non-functional Micro Hydro Units in Kalam union council of Swat district. The units will be rehabilitated under the European Union Funded Programme for Economic Advancement and Community Empowerment (PEACE).


The micro hydro projects will generate 1.4 MW of electricity and will be completed in 6 to 8 months. A total population of over 3,600 households will benefit from the MHP’s.

The ground breaking ceremony was organized in Kalam, Swat, which was attended by PTI chairman Imran Khan, Chief Minister KPK, Pervez Khattak, heads of local government departments and communities of Kalam union councils.


A 200 KW power station in Kalam has remained closed since 2008 due to a technical fault. It was further damaged by the floods in 2010. In the initiated scheme, it will be upgraded to produce 400 KW and will capacitate 901 connections in the area. The project is expected to be completed in six months.

A 400 KW power station at Ashrun has also been closed after it was damaged by the floods. This station, set to be completed in one year, will be upgraded to produce 1 MW of power with the capacity of 2,703 connections.

PTI Chairman, Imran Khan had announced to install 350 such micro hydro projects in KPK.
