LAHORE: The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Thursday refuted reports that a student from their institution has been detained by security officials on terrorism charges.
Earlier, it was reported by some Pakistani, Indian media outlets that Usman Sarwar, the student of LUMS was arrested over the Pathankot air base attack and his photos was doing rounds on social media.
Facebook page of LUMS Students and Alumni Action Committee (LSAAC), stated, ” No LUMS Students has been arrested on terrorism charges.”
“This is to clarify that rumours doing rounds on Social Media and being reported by Indian Media and SAMAA TV (in Pakistan) about the arrest of a LUMS Student on terrorism charges are completely False.” FB status said.
Informing about student, status revealed, ” The Student in question is a hostelite, currently in LUMS. He is not a Graduate nor is his father an Army Officer as claimed by the news outlets. The Student Council and LUMS Authorities have also met with the student to discuss the reports, and will completely cooperate with Law Enforcement Agencies if the need arises.
“This is highly irresponsible journalism on part of the news agencies. The student’s family is extremely worried because his photos are being run as Headlines, without any proof. We request you to avoid naming the student on public forums and discuss with caution, until any actual information is shared by LEAs. As can be expected, the matter can have consequences an individuals’ life”. status further added.
