Peshawar Stom: Torrential rain in KP claims 26 lives , over 180 injured so far


PESHAWAR: As weather conditions were not favorable in KP Sunday evening. Torrential rain, doing its damage causes death of 26 and over 180 injured.


As the storm struck capital Peshawar and other parts of KP, which results in falling of trees, buildings, signboards and mobile phone towers which also caused blockage of several roads and on the other hand it rained heavily reaching three feet and four feet in the deep backward areas.

It was reported that three rooms collapsed in Wahid Garhi area on Charsadda road, which results in death of six of the family members .

Emergency has been imposed in Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.

The meteorological department predicted another 24 hours crucial with chances of heavy rain and thunderstorm. Mushtaq Ali Shah, director of the provincial meteorological department, telling about the thunder storm which covered Peshawar and its nearing parts,”mini cyclone with wind speeds of 110 kilometers per hour (68 miles per hour)”.


Rescue teams set off to help the people, as it is told that several are missing, it has chance that they might be under the collapsed building’s in the areas of Peshawar’s Pakha Ghulam area, Charsadda road, Bhudni area and others.

Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over loss of lives in the province. He asked the Governor and Chief Minister to personally supervise the relief activities. He also announced compensation of Rs 300,000 to the family members of deceased and 100,000 to each injured person.

Pakistan army have sent a team comprising of doctors, paramedics and rescue teams.
