HARIPUR: According to unofficial results of all polling stations, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) candidate Babar Nawaz secured the seat of National Assembly from NA-19 Haripur. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Dr. Raja Amir Zaman is at second place with a clear difference of over 45,000 votes.
As per unofficial results of all 513 polling stations, Babar Nawaz bagged 120,000 votes against 75,326 votes of Dr. Raja Amir Zaman. Voting ended peacefully at 5 pm. No kind of mishap was reported. Nine candidates were fighting for the seat of NA-19, however, the tough competition was between Babar Nawaz (PMLN) and Dr. Raja Amir Zaman (PTI). Celebrations have already started at Babar Nawaz’s house in Haripur.
First time in the history of Pakistan, biometric voting was conducted, however, that was restricted to 30 polling stations out of 513 to gradually introduce the culture of electronic voting.
Dr Raja Amir Zaman from PTI had won the May 11, 2013 elections with 117,000 votes. However, runner-up Omar Ayub Khan, who belongs to the PML-N, challenged the results of 78 polling stations, accusing the winner of rigging. After re-polling on some polling stations, PML N Omer Ayub won the NA19 that was too challenged by the Raja Amir Zaman on the ground that re-polling should be held again in whole constituency instead of few polling stations.
