KPK Budget 2015-16: KPK Assembly to announce education, development focused budget today


PESHAWAR: The government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is going to announce it’s third consecutive provincial budget worth Rs. 472 billion today (Monday). Education sector and development projects are at top priority.

Provincial Finance Minister Muzaffar Said Advocate will present the budget in KPK Assembly today. According to Finance Minister, special focus is on education and development programs. Rs. 142 is likely to be set aside for Annual Development Program. Unlike Punjab and Sindh Assembly, KPK assembly is expected to increase salary from 10 to 15%.

According to official sources of provinivcial finance department, “Major share of the budget around Rs. 108 billion will go to education sector including primary, secondary, higher, technical, and vocational.” Chief Minister KPK Pervez Khatak will preside cabinet meeting to approvae the budget 2015-16 before assembly session.


The KPK government is also planning to introduce car scheme like Punjab government with some modifications. It is planning to introduce life time token scheme for 1000cc cars. Finance Minister confirmed that proposal is also in the news budget. Moreover, the provincial government has successfully introduced the same scheme for motorcycles before. “It will be one time token scheme and 1000cc cars would be exempted from depositing token forever,” the minister said.

Sources also revealed that new taxes will be introduced in the new budget. To increase the tax net, cattle and fruit markets, and cement and construction products would be brought in the tax net while changes in property tax had been proposed as well to control the deficit and increase revenue.

Provincial government employees’ salaries are expected to increase by 10 to 15%. Rs. 24 billion have been proposed for health sector, Rs. 5 billion are for subsidized ghee and flour and Rs. 2 billion have been proposed for subsidy on wheat.
