PESHAWAR: A provincial minister of Kkyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Ziaullah Afridi, was taken into custody on Thursday over the charges of misusing authority and involving in corruption.
The accountability Commission arrested the minister over the allegations of corruption and misusing authority, according to sources.
The initial reports from NAB claims that in 2008, 500 acres of land owned by the Mines and Minerals Department was leased for 33 years for Rs14,000 only. the land was leased in Abbotabad to a woman known as Rukhsana in an agreement made by the minister’s front man Ehteshaamul Mulk. The agreement said the profits of the deal would be shared between the two parties equally.
The minister currently holds the portfolio of provincial ministry of mineral development.
Afridi was elected from PK-1 Peshawar-I under the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He got 22922 votes and defeated Qaumi Watan Party’s Malik Muhammad Nadeem who sbagged 6886 votes against him.
He was given the ministry of Mineral Departments afterwards and he held the post on May 7, 2014. He is also a member of Steering Committee on Capacity Building Abroad as well as of Standing Committee No.22 on Revenue Department.
