As women prevented from voting, ECP orders re-polling in KP-95


ISLAMABAD: The election commission of Pakistan (ECP) commanded on Tuesday to re-poll in KP-95 constituency, Lower Dir-II.


The verdict taken following petitions that women were rebuffed their suffrage in May 7 by-polls for the provincial assembly constituency PK-95.

ECP is yet to offer the date for re-polling.

Women voters confirmed that they were not permitted to vote during the elections.

Earlier, at least a dozen women belonging to the constituency had approached Peshawar High Court through a petition, seeking for the election to be declared null and void and to dislodge Jammat-e-Islami’s elected candidate.

The petition, submitted through their counsel Shahab Khattak, contains the women’s making the Election Commission of Pakistan respondent through the chief election commissioner, provincial election commissioner, and returning and district returning officers. It also includes the winning and losing candidates as respondents.


A number of reports from the constituency exposed that not a single woman cast her ballot on the day of polling on May 7.

Meanwhile, the seat got vacant after JI Ameer Sirajul Haq was elected as a Senator.
