LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declared Gullu Butt’s detention as illegal after the granting of a bail and ordered for his instant release.
Justice Qasim Khan of the LHC raised a question about his detention after divisional court’s issuing his bail.
In its remarks, the LHC said that if the Superintendent of Police (SP) who was praising Butt for smashing car-windows had not been detained then Butt should also be released.
The court ordered the Punjab government to release Gullu Butt right away and notify the court in writing.
Butt had come into the public eye after he was caught on cameras blatantly damaging quite a few vehicles in the presence of police during a clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and police in Lahore’s Model Town.
He had been arrested after the incident and was taken to an anti-terrorist court (ATC) in Lahore. Police officials had told the court that Butt had been involved in vandalism and prowling when a clash had broken out between police and PAT supporters.
Butt has submitted now and again that police wrongly implicated him in the case, pleading that he was only passing through the area of the occurrence and requested that he be released.
