PM to review relief activities in flood-hit Skardu


SKARDU: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reached Skardu on Thursday to check the relief works in the flood-affected areas.


The media sources said, the premier will be briefed by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) personnel and local administration about the havoc besides ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities that are also contributed by Pakistan Army. Nawaz Sharif will also meet the flood stricken people and distribute relief stuffs among them.

Earlier, heavy down pour that started in mid-July have caused wreck in both the north and south of the country, claiming almost 100 people’s lives and annihilating up to 1,900 houses.


More than 38 people got killed in severely hit north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 in Azad Kashmir, 11 in Punjab, 8 in Balochistan and 5 in Gilgit Baltistan.

Subsequently, rescue and relief operations have continued on Wednesday in both districts of Baltistan area, Skardu and Ghanche after massive flood, thunderstorm and land sliding.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted more heavy rains to hit across Pakistan including those areas that currently are suffering from flood.
