GILGIT-BALTISTAN: Elections in 7 seven district consisting 24 constituencies of Gilgit-Baltistan are underway for the second Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly that is going to be formed after six years, reported by Radio Pakistan.
The polling in all distracts began at 8 a.m and will continue till 4 p.m without any break. About 272 candidates of various political parties are contesting against 24 Legislative Assembly seats. Two holidays for today and tomorrow has been declared by the government. 1151 polling stations has been set up for 618,324 registered voters of GB. The number of male voters are 329,515 while 288,889 are females voters. Government has declared 250 polling stations very sensitive and while one 150 are of sensitive nature.
For free and fair election process, soldier of Pak Army, Rangers, local police and GB scouts have been deployed in all the districts to maintain law and order situation during polling. Earlier, in a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), request by the Election Commission of Pakistan and the civil administration for deploying the troops by in the area had been accepted.
