KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement claimed NA-245 and PS-115 by-polls held in Karachi yesterday in a one sided constant in the end.
Turnout was quite low unlike others election held in Karachi. According to analysts, MQM was feeling confident to win the seat without any fuss. Other potential candidates for the seats were from Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf but central leadership of both parties showed little interest for the by-polls.
In NA-245, almost 11% of 383,784 total registered voters had been casted, similarly in PS-115, out of 111,711 registered voters only 9.20% voted for the respective candidates.
According to unofficial results, MQM’s NA-245 candidate Kamal Malik secured 39,597 votes to claim the National Assembly seats. After, PTI candidate who had withdrew his nomination hours before polling time, the second main candidate was Pakistan People Party’s Shahid Hussain, who managed 3,116 votes.
In PS-115, it was feared that law and order situation would be worsen as MQM-Haqiqi had fielded his candidate however nothing serious happened. Here MQM nominee attained 11, 747 votes, his closed rival MQM-Haqiqi’s Jameel Qadri managed 1,3811 votes, PTI’s candidate Amjad Jah got 1,210 votes and PPP’S Saeed Chawla secured 475 votes only.
