Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chairman JUI-F, divulged ,on the floor of National Assembly, that the military establishment solely took the initiative of launching the military operation, in FATA, without paying heed to the Parliament’s supremacy.
Fazlur Rehman asserted the parliament’s preponderance over other institutions, in taking any such initiatives, because they pertain to public affairs. He further maintained that although JUI-F never sympathized with the militants, yet it is also cognizant of the futility of past military exercises. He expressed his criticism as: “It is time to determine whether this operation is against terrorists or the people of Waziristan!”
He claimed that it was Army who took the decision of carrying out the military operation, and the rubber-stamp parliament merely validated the decision. He considered the military establishment taking-up the initiative, as entirely undemocratic ,which serves as a bad precedent for the militants ,not to rely on the democratic claims made by the government.
He censured the parliamentarians for disrespecting the former peace motions ,pertaining to the peaceful settlement of the issue through dialogue.
He made a maverick defiance:“I know I will be penalized for my independent opinion but I want to record my protest on the pages of history.”
