Dr Asim Hussain’s remand in NAB custody extend for 7 days


KARACHI:On Thursday, the remand of PPP stalwart former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain over alleged involvement in illegal appointments of contracts in the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).


NAB Investigation Officer Zameer Abbasi had asked for extension in Dr Asim remand, arguing more considerable progress had been made.

NAB had already investigated the PPP leader when he was in police custody after having being given authority by an ATC.

Earlier, Dr Asim had remained in Rangers Custody for 90 days.

Opposite to the police statement, the Rangers prosecutor argued that sufficient testimony found against Dr Asim to incriminate him. He said that the Rangers were not consulted during investigations in spite of the case being initiated by the paramilitary force.


Following this opposition, the court directed the police IO to submit a report within 10 days explaining why no charges could be made against Dr Hussain under the CrPC.

Dr Asim had served as a federal minister for petroleum during Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) tenure.Moreover, Dr Asim is serving in the health and education department in Sindh besides, he is a chairman of Ziauddin Group of Hospitals in Karachi. At the moment, he is working as the Chairman of Higher Commission of Pakistan, Sindh and Chairman of Petroleum Institute of Pakistan.
