BALOCHISTAN: Raheela Hameed Durrani became the first female Balochistan Assembly speaker in Balochistan’s 67 year history with the support of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz.
Raheela Durrani was elected as the MPA on the ticket of PML (N) on a special seat for women in general elections 2013. She has also previously served as the Minister for Prosecution. “I will try my best to meet the expectations of the people”, said the newly elected speaker Blacohistan assembly on oath ceremony.
She was elected unopposed as new speaker Balochsitan assembly after vacating the seat by Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali. However, Mufti Gulab Khan of Jamiat Ulma e Islama Fazal group also submitted the nomination forms but his forms were rejected by the Returning Officer because of expiry of time fixed for the process.
Raheela Hameed Khan is the daughter of Hammed Khan Durrani and was born in Quetta. She holds L.L.B and master degree from University of Balochsitan. She has also completed Certificate in Leadership, Environment and Sustainable Development. She is affiliated with PLM (N) and the General Secretary of Women Wing of PML (N). In 2002 elections she has been elected as a Member of Balochistan Provincial Assembly from W-54 reserved seat.
