QUETTA: At least 20 passengers shot dead and several wounded when 20 unidentified armed assailants abducted 25 passengers of two Karachi-bound buses in Mastung.
The two buses were travelling on a route from Pishin to Karachi, abducted by the 20 assailants in Mastung, the area of Quetta, Balochistan. The attack left at least 20 people dead with several injured. No group has claimed responsibility. Home Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said to the media in Quetta that the armed men intercepted the buses and ordered passengers to alight. Militants searched the passengers and their identity card and took them away towards nearby mountain range.
According to eye witnesses, unknown gun men had blocked the highway in two places near Kadocha area on the RCD highway. “They stopped the buses first and from first two buses they forced off passengers, ” they said, adding the gun men killed the driver on the spot. Fighting is ongoing in the area between the attackers and security forces.
Sarfaraz Bugti also confirmed that attack was not sectarian based as the victims were ethnically Pashtun and were travelling from Pishin to Karachi. CM Balochistan, Dr. Abdul Malik Balouch has strongly condemned the tragedy and directed the law enforcement authorities to ensure immediate and safe recovery of the remaining passengers.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has strongly condemned the massacre and ordered the LFA to investigate the matter and submit the report in due course.
