Idle Postal Books whose extinction begins on June 21 and what could happen

Holders of “idle” brochures from November 30, 2021 until Tuesday, June 21, 2022 are to give instructions at any post office and allow their brochure to be registered. As soon as the deadline passes without any indication, the ledger is amortized and the funds are transferred to the fund established under the Budget Act 2006 (Law 266/05) and managed by Consap, a private law firm owned by the Ministry of Economy.

Deadline after October 20

The procedure will be repeated for the books of accounts declared inactive as of March 31, 2022: in this case, the deadline for avoiding extinction and for transferring funds deposited into the fund is October 20, 2022.

After the deadlines, you can always get your money back. For compensation, you can apply directly to Consap without having to contact an intermediary. Time to claim amounts: ten years.

What is

The so-called “idle” postal savings books are those that have not been moved by their owner for more than 10 years, and are not subject to operational procedures or blocks that prevent the movement of amounts and whose balance is greater than 100 euros.

The category of “dormant accounts” includes not only savings books (postal and bank), but also cash deposits, current accounts of banks and mail, stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit, investment funds, cashier’s checks in which there are no transactions or movements by the holder or from by authorized third parties for a period of 10 years starting from the date of free availability of funds or financial instruments. An “idle” deposit is terminated unless the holder makes an operation or movement, within 180 days of contacting the broker (but contact with a desire to continue the relationship is also sufficient).
