Horizon – Guerrilla confirms multiplayer game development

Guerrilla has confirmed that it is working on a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe, with a new cast and a new art style.

In a job posting on Twitter, the Amsterdam studio revealed that “a new internal team is developing a separate online project in the Horizon universe.”

With a new cast of characters and unique looks, friends will be able to explore the majestic lands of Horizon together.

A rumor surfaced earlier this year hinting at Horizon multiplayer, but this is the first time Guerrilla has confirmed such plans for the machine hunting series.

Job postings provide more context. The online project’s narrative designer needs to “tell a deep, complex story,” suggesting that it’s probably not just a match-based multiplayer game. The game’s writer is asked to “come up with compelling ideas for missions, factions, and side stories”, indicating that it will be a game with narrative elements at least similar to those of the main series. Meanwhile, the project’s lead combat designer will be responsible for creating “a variety of enemies (machines and robots) that focus on exciting combat with cooperative elements.”

Guerrilla notes in her Twitter post that she “continues to create epic solo adventures for Aloy,” so it can be assumed that a third mainline Horizon game is also planned.

However, this new multiplayer project wouldn’t be the first game to expand the Horizon universe. In February, the PSVR 2 headset will debut Horizon: Call of the Mountain, a virtual reality developer reimagining a colorful post-apocalypse.
