At the end of last year The Google Announce a major policy change Google photos Regarding the preservation of the images in high quality, which proves that from Tuesday 1 June 2021, the new photos and videos that users back up will be counted in the free 15 GB storage space provided with each Google account or for the additional storage that the user has the option to purchase Through Google One.
When about a week remains from that fateful date, the Mountain View giant decides it Post a post on the official blog To summarize the new situation and to make the transition easier.
First of all, it should be noted that HD photos and videos that were already backed up before June 1, 2021 will not count towards the storage space of your Google account (in practice, they will still be free and exempt from the storage limit).
Moreover, the Mountain View giant remembers that each user can take advantage of a special tool that estimates when they can run out of available space (You can find here the dedicated page).
Google Photos has a new tool
The Google team has also decided to make a new tool available for users who want to continue using Google Photos for free to manage their multimedia content.
This storage management tool displays photos or videos that users may want to delete, such as blurry photos, screenshots, and large videos, so you can make the most of your storage space (with the option to manually deselect any content you want to keep).
Finally, to make the new content archiving policy more understandable to all users, the level of “High Quality” will be renamed to “Archive Savings”.
Basically, the Google Photos team is not following in its footsteps but rather wants to ensure that users are well-aware of the running news starting next week and avoid annoying misunderstandings.
We remind you that Google Pixel users will apply slightly different rules:
- Google Pixel owners (2016 model) will be able to continue saving photos and videos in original quality without time or space limit
- With Google Pixel 2, photos and videos are available in original quality without space limits (if uploaded by January 16, 2021) while content can be uploaded in high quality (or storage space saving) without restrictions.
- With Google Pixel 3, photos and videos are available in original quality without space limits (if uploaded by January 1, 2022) while contents can then be saved in high quality (or storage space saving) without limits.
- Google Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 5 owners will be able to save photos and videos in high quality (or save storage space) without limits.
Will you continue to use Google Photos or will you focus on other services?
