Giraglia’s excitement is back. Departure from the port of Sanremo

There is less than a week left until the Rolex Giraglia 2023, which this year celebrates its 70th edition.

Next Friday, June 9, after the long registration process, the San Remo evening will light up again to greet the many participants and start the first phase of the competition, which will bring boats and crews to Saint-Tropez. In the usual atmosphere that mixes parties and sports, the competition will start at midnight.

Then the boats will compete, from Sunday 11 to Tuesday 13, in the Coastal Regatta, based in Saint-Tropez. Finally, as has often happened in recent editions, the Giraglia itself will start on Wednesday at 24 o’clock, which will lead the competitors to circle the rock off the coast of Corsica and, thus, bow towards Genoa, at the conclusion of one of the most popular sailboat competitions not only in the White Sea average, but all over the world.

It is therefore good that Sanremo continues to be the starting point for the whole event and, in any case, for a night race which, at a distance of 60 nautical miles, is already a serious testing ground.

Registration for all trials is still open and interesting numbers are already being recorded. The inaugural regatta, from Sanremo to Saint-Tropez, already has some sixty boats registered, for a wide range of countries represented, including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Malta, Principality of Monaco, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay and of course Italy. In accordance with the requirements of the World Cup Federation, the International Olympic Committee and the Italian and French federations, boats associated in any way with Russia and Belarus are not accepted into the competition.

Also increasing the number of participants in the first regatta are the new registration transactions that the Italian Yacht Club organization wanted to include precisely to encourage crews to participate in all races and not just the most prestigious ones abroad.

In Sanremo, the Sanremo Yacht Club will take care of the local organization of what, every year, is a real festival of the sea that attracts thousands of spectators to the docks and, at first, along the waterfront.

To accompany the sporting show, as in the best traditions, a fireworks display will return, scheduled from 10:30 pm, before the start of the competition. –
