Ferrari Roma Spider, soft top and 620 HP V8

Ferrari Unveil what’s new Roma spider which reinterprets the Italian style of the 1950s and 1960s with a modern key. A model based on the mechanics of the already well-known Ferrari Roma which marks a comeback Removable canvas roof. In fact, it’s a solution not seen in a front-engined, horse-drawn sports car in 54 years, that is, since the days of the Ferrari 365 GTS 4.

So, instead of a retractable metal roof, we find a soft roof that can be either Opening and closing in 13.5 seconds At a maximum speed of 60 km / h. Maranello technicians worked hard in developing this element of the Roma Spider to offer passengers not only the same comfort that a retractable hard top could have but also to take up as little space as possible inside the load compartment. In fact, Ferrari says that the roof height in the folded version, equal to 220mm, allows it to continue to offer a boot capacity of 255 litres.

A special 5-layer fabric with a custom texture is used for the cover, which can be ordered in 4 different colors.

Very high performance

Ferrari describes the new Roma Spider as a 2+ car. This means that in addition to the two front passengers, it offers two temporary seats in the rear, with less space than the coupe version. The Ferrari Roma Spider was designed by Ferrari Style Centre Under the direction of Flavio Manzoni.

The design of the front end does not change from that of the Ferrari Roma. Maranello technicians mainly worked on the rear to be able to incorporate the soft top. To improve comfort with the top opening, Ferrari has developed wind deflector, which the driver can activate even while driving. This solution, the automaker says, makes it possible to reduce turbulence by up to 30% compared to its previous 2+ models.

In depth we also find active spoiler Which allows you to generate a larger load. In fact, the back cover has a movable part that is able to assume three preset positions (LD or Low drag, MD or downforce, HD or High downforce).

Up to a speed of 100 km / h, the wing remains in the LD position. However, if the wing speed exceeds 300 km / h, he always takes the MD position, because in these conditions it is preferable to have a car that is as balanced as possible, taking into account the slightest drag penalty. Ferrari then adds that in all other conditions, the spoiler defaults to MD mode. In this configuration, the movable wing forms an angle of 150° with the rear window, and is capable of generating approximately 30% of the maximum vertical load, for a drag gain of less than 1%. In HD mode, the wing makes it possible to generate a vertical load of 95 kg at a speed of 250 km / h.

The chassis is derived strictly from that of the Ferrari Roma, with some modifications at the rear. Maranello adds that theoverweight compared to a coupe 84 kg (dry weight 1,556 kg). The power-to-weight ratio is 2.5 kg/hp. Weight distribution is 48% front and 52% rear.

The interiors are very much that of the Ferrari Roma. We therefore find a digital instrument panel and an 8.4-inch central display that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Among the options is a dedicated display for the front passenger on which key gear information can be displayed.

Speaking of the engine, we find a capable 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 to deliver 620 hp with 760 Nm of torque. The unit associated with an extension 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox derived from that of the SF90 Stradale. The overall dimensions of the clutch assembly have been reduced by 20% compared to the seven-speed gearbox.

Performance, of course, is very high. there The maximum speed exceeded 320 km / h, while it takes 3.4 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h. On the other hand, 200 km / h is reached in 9.7 seconds.
