Ebola outbreak: the disease is frightening again

The woman was buried on February 5, but not according to proper burial practices to prevent the spread of Ebola; During previous outbreaks, handling of dead bodies was minimized and implemented by trained teams. During her illness, she visited three health centers after seeking treatment for symptoms of nosebleeds on January 25. In short, the diagnosis was not only timely, it would have arrived very late.

As of February 8, health investigators were able to monitor a total of 117 contacts with the woman. It is unclear whether the victim announced today was in direct contact with the unnamed woman, who died a week earlier. This new cluster represents the 12th Ebola outbreak in the Congo. Thousands of people have died from the virus in the Congo in recent years. The epidemic that began in 2018 and the World Health Organization declared its end in June 2020 has killed more than 2,000 people. Ebola is a disease with a very high mortality rate.
