London – “Cooperation between Italy and the United Kingdom will be strengthened, best wishes to King Charles III and Queen Camilla.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni writes on Twitter a message of good wishes to the new British rulers at the head of England. The coronation ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
Feast day in London for the coronation of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom. After the long ceremony, which began this morning around 11.20 Italian time, messages of good wishes from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on social media have reached the royal family.
“The ancient Cosmatesque mosaics in Westminster Abbey,” Meloni writes, “on which the throne is placed today for the coronation of King Charles III, were masterfully created by Italian craftsmen some eight centuries ago.
Today it is still there to dazzle the world, and to tell the story of the historic and fruitful collaboration between Italy and the United Kingdom, which we are sure with King Charles III – who again yesterday mentioned his love for Italy – will strengthen, as we have already begun with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
My best wishes to King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the entire British people,” concluded the Prime Minister.
The lavish ceremony concluded at around 3.30pm with the king and queen saluting from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. 2,200 guests for the coronation of Charles III. Much less than at the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1952. 203 countries are present, including 100 heads of state. Sergio Mattarella, accompanied by his daughter, did not miss the event of the year. He was there to represent Italy.
A different ceremony, more restrained and also of a religious character because representatives of other religions were also present at the ceremony.
