NSW: Woman pulled from cockpit before being swept away
La Presse / Corriere
(La Presse) New South Wales police have rescued a 72-year-old woman after her car exploded on a flooded road 15 kilometers north of Kempsey. The woman was trapped inside her car in chest-deep water after she was dragged downstream during the floods that swept the area. Northeast Coast Police officers attached a winch cable to a sergeant who entered the flood waters and drove to the semi-submerged vehicle. The officer found the woman trapped inside, and now the water reaches her neck. Working with five other officers, he was able to bring her safely back to Earth. The police then transferred the woman to a local hospital, where she was treated for hypothermia and exhaustion. It is believed that she was held for 45 minutes. None of the officers were injured.
