Alexa has become a concierge for hotels and hotel facilities

Amazon has announced the hotel version of its voice assistant, with the launch of Alexa Smart Properties for Hospitality in Italy. The new service is a solution Amazon developed to allow guests of hotels, resorts, and B&Bs to take advantage of Alexa while traveling. After its release in France and the UK, it made it to Italy at some hotels, including the TH Roma Carpegna Palace Hotel. Alexa allows guests to simplify certain tasks through Echo devices in hotel rooms: Guests can ask Alexa to perform a series of commands such as playing music, giving weather information, and checking out, all through the use of voice. Thanks to Alexa, guests will be able to access a series of information related to the hotel they are staying in, such as knowing the Wi-Fi password and the opening hours of the restaurant, bar or gym, for example, “Alexa, what time is the restaurant open?”. Moreover, customers will be able to manage smart controls for lights, thermostats and curtains in the room they are staying in, request hotel services and report a maintenance issue. By saying, “Alexa, the air conditioning isn’t working,” for example, the front desk will take the request and send help ASAP.

Through Amazon’s voice assistant, it will also be possible to know the fastest way to get to the main attractions of the city or traffic towards the airport. Just ask, for example, “Alexa, what’s the best way to the Colosseum?” and “Alexa, what’s the traffic like at Fiumicino Airport?”. Alexa Smart Properties also targets the millions of tourists who visit our country every year. In fact, the devices inside the accommodation facilities can interact in both English and Italian. Guests use Alexa without connecting to their personal Amazon account and have the ability to mute an Echo device’s microphone in the room. Also, audio recordings are not saved.

With Alexa Smart Properties for Hospitality, customers can experience the same convenience in their hotel room,” said Maryam Tom, Alexa Enterprise EU Director at Amazon . Alexa Smart Properties for Hospitality gives hospitality managers new ways to create memorable stays for their guests. Giorgio Palmucci, Executive Vice President, TH Resorts, said: “TH Group is delighted to be among the first chains in Italy to use Alexa Smart Properties at the TH Roma Carpegna Palace hotel. We have always tried to innovate our offering to provide the best possible travel and accommodation experience. We started incorporating new technologies during the booking process and are now focusing on the stay experience. Thanks to Alexa, we will be better able to guarantee immediate feedback to our guests about all their needs: from simple information to specific requests of the staff. This will allow you to experience the same comfort experience as at home in the hotel, making your stay even more enjoyable.”
