Experts have been suggesting for years to follow the Mediterranean diet to stay healthy. But it does contain many vegetables, which can be a possible cause of irritable bowel syndrome and, in particular, bloating. In fact, our body is not able to absorb all the vegetable fibers, which leads to increased gases and stools.

For this reason, if we want to reduce swelling and abdominal pain, we can try to interfere with our diet. In particular, the consumption of rich foods should be reduced FODMAP. Among them are various types of vegetables such as artichokes, cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage. They also contain legumes (beans, lentils, etc.), fruits (pears and apples), but also honey, milk and fresh cheeses.

On the contrary, we should consume those foods that contain only modest amounts of FODMAPs, such as grapefruit, tangerines, oranges, lemons, kiwis, raspberries and other berries. We prefer eggplant, tomatoes, lettuce, celery, peppers and replace dairy products with products of plant origin.

We continue this diet for 5 weeks and then gradually reintroduce foods rich in FODMAPs. In this way we should observe a steady decrease in the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. This result can be amplified by regular physical activity, especially aerobic exercise, just walk like this.
